Resident Evil 5, beat'd

I got the Special Edition Steelbox which contains a bonus DVD with interviews and behind-the-scenes material. The DVD wasn't really worth the extra money, though there were some interresting clips, like when they showed how they recorded the in-game cinematics but it was mostly pretty boring. The box however is really nice compared to the regular 360's keep cases (no 360 logo and all that).

When I first started playing the controls were a little funky. I was used to playing Far Cry 2, and they handle a bit differently, obviously, from having a different perspective and all. (Which i would later find out again when I picked up FC2 again....jikes!).

Knowing the difficulties of previous games, I started playing on the easiest setting, just to get a feel for the game. Sadly with that, the only things I had real problems with were the bosses and mini-bosses. The rest was pretty straight forward.

Something that bugged me was the lack of challenging pussles. That's what I really liked about the older instalments, that you have to look for clues and use your wits to get by. Here, the most challenging pussle is to find a lever for your partner and tell her to get ready to use it, while you go look for a lever of your own. Piece of cake.

Ammunition isn't really an issue when playing on the easiest setting. At least not when you play with an AI controlled Sheva. I played through the game with a friend and I could swear we used up more ammo. I'm thinking Sheva preserves ammo better than any of us did. ;D

Infected with the virus - Resident Evil

Well then. I find myself playing a lot of Resident Evil, eagerly awaiting RE5. I ordered it last Wednesday, and it should be here any day now (shipping takes a wee bit longer from UK). In the meantime I'm playing up on the older instalments. Just to keep a fresh imprint of the story in the back of my head.

And also because Resident Evil is fucking great!

Yesterday I got hold of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. It's fun, but kinda tricky. :-]

Florensia

I've been looking into a couple of free Mmorpgs and discovered Florensia. It's not easy getting into a new game when you're used to WoW's oh so simple interface and settings, but I've been giving it a shot.

Starting off, you chose between four different classes: Explorer, Noble, Mercenary and Saint. I picked a Mercenary, he was the most badass looking one (and not a lot at that).

At first I was a little cunfused. Questgivers and their hand-in counterparts don't show up on any maps. However, the questlog states who I need to talk to, and the 'big map' displays where all the npc's are at. It's a minor inconvenience looking for someone, but so far there's only some 20 npc's to select (in the town where I currently reside) so it's not too bad.

Another thing I found a little annoying is when 'sealed' gear drops. Sealed means that I can't use the item unless I unlock the seal. How do I unlock it? Find the local bartender..

..What?

At first I was thinking, alright, this is a Deckard Cain type thing, where I whip out a few gold to have my gear identified, right? Nope. You still need to shell out some cash, but you also need.......fish a Dissolution Pearl, aquired from fishing.

...What?!

In other words, I'll need to find out how to fish, which'll be a drag. Or not, as I found out you can go away from keyboard while you fish and it'll keep going until you run out of room in your inventory or run out of bait. That's kinda sweet. Every once in a while you'll catch a pearl. (Don't ask me how that works, catching pearls with a fishing hook..)

It'll be a huge improvement from the fishing in WoW. (I swear, I have NEVER in my years of playing come above rank 7 in fishing).

Another thing that I have yet to explore is the ability to get your own ship and take to the seas. It sounds really cool and will be useful when travling between the islands that make the world of Florensia.

Far Cry 2 revisited

The last few weeks I've been playing Far Cry 2 with my friends at work, and we mostly play the multiplayer-mode called Capture the Diamond.

At first I thought the control was dodgy, I've never been able to play FPS's on a console with any successful aiming and so I've always thought it was pretty lame. But after a few hours of playing (and countless more hours of whining) I'm starting to get the hang of it, and it's now a lot of fun.

Me and my friends have teamed up under the name 'Quiet Apes'. Dunno where the name came from really, one of the guys just blurted it out and we agreed it was an ok name to use. My suggestion was 'Farting Solids'... Dunno which is better. xD

If you meet someone called 'II qa II Mangek', that's me. Wave and I'll give you a cookie. Or laugh at my still rather poor aim. :)

Edit: I'm now called 'qa oOo mangek', in case you were looking..

Resident Evil 5

I will preorder Resident Evil 5 for the 360 some time soon but I'm still unsure whether to get the regular release or the Limited Edition. Limited Edition would be sweet, and doesn't cost all that much more - and looks really cool.

The contents of the box is also a bit puzzling; the North American release seems to include a Chris Redfield figurine among a few other things, but I haven't seen those mentioned about the European release. Hope it's included, because it looks pretty cool. Probably won't get the LE unless it is.. :]

It's a shame they limited the players to only 2, but I'm anticipating it'll give me and my brother some fun nights... Nyihihi... >:)

Edit: It would appear that I confused the Collector's Edition with the Limited Edition. I suppose there would be a few differences, such as the figurine and what not. Oh well... Seems like the Japanese market gets the winning box anyways -- that shoulder/waist strap would be pure pwnage. :D

Edit 2: After having played the demo I'm convinced I MUST HAVE THIS GAME, NAO! GIEF MOAR ZOMBEEHS! O NOES OUT OF AMMO!

Portal: Still Alive

I downloaded the 10-level demo from Xbox Live Arcade and instantly fell in love. Having heard a lot of cool things about this game my expectations were very high. And with due reason.

Beating the last level in the demo left me with a craving for more, so the following day (or so) I purchased the full version and set of on the journey again. And it's got me to pull at my hair more than once, as the later levels in the game are quite tricky. Some of them require a little bit of thinking, something I'm evidently not all that good at. ;)

I've now reached the second last level (or so I've been told) and the end part of it is having me throw my controller out the window. It feels so much more based on luck rather than skill, and I end up in the acid every time. Grr..

Update: I asked my brother to get me through this particular passage (he beat the game yesterday) and he also complained about falling in the lava. We checked the settings and enabled portal funneling, which made it a breeze to get up. I'll likely finish the game tonight, as I believe the rest of the game should be easy enough. :)

Oh, and listen to the "Portal song". It's beautiful. I think I love GLaDOS.. :D

Update 2: Show's over kids, I beat the game. I felt a little sad, GLaDOS shouldn't have to die. Even though she tried to have me killed.. I still love you, GLaDOS!

I meant what I said about the tapes

My brother and two of my co-workers bought FarCry2 the other day (one got it for the PS3, sigh). and after having tried it (and also from one of my co-workers bullying me), I decided to buy it myself. As I don't have an awesome computer (well, if I could just get new RAM, a better cpu and a new gfx card...) I got it for the Xbox 360. As I don't have an Xbox 360, I had to order one of those as well. Yip yip.

The game looks really pretty. The African savanna and jungles have been heaps of fun to destroy, mostly by grenades or Molotov cocktails as I haven't acquired a flamethrower just yet. It's just a shame that the fires don't spread as much as they ought to; the ground is dry most of the time, we should have massive massive forest fires. But no, they burn for a little while, spread to maybe double the initial impact spot, and then....go out. Meh.

One of the first quests I obtained were by a man with a tape recorder. He apparently give tapes away to a bunch of other people, who then destroy them (or so I understood it), but when he saw that I was "new" he babbled on a bit before giving me another quest, finishing with the line "I meant what I said about the tapes". I walked around the room a bit, and he kept repeating that line. "I meant what I said about the tapes.........."

I got it already, lets talk about something new...

Oh yes, finally!

I just finished downloading and applying patch 3.0.2 for World of Warcraft. It's pretty exciting, I wanna explore the new stuff, the new talents and the newly added harbour!

Apparently I can't, not just yet though. I can't seem to connect to any servers.. "Technical problems with the battlegroup..." Bah!

Finally I can make use of Ogremound again. I'll be merging both my blogs into this one (but keep the warcraft related a bit separate, still)... I'll be posting screens of various things, mostly for my own amusement (because I mean, who else would see them?).

Edit:
- I can connect to my server now, but I can't really do anything, it's plagued by lag (massive, massive lag).
- My friendlist have vanished?! :'((

Edit2:
- If you look in the navigation, there's now a new link pointing to my Warcraft posts. Check it out!
